Abstract

As older adults represent an increasingly large proportion of the population, much attention has been focused on issues surrounding medication prescribing and utilization in the elderly. Whereas medication safety remains the paramount concern, access to essential drug therapies continues to elude increasing numbers of elderly persons. This article describes the challenges of improving the quality of medication prescribing for older persons and ensuring adequate access to medications in this growing population.
