Abstract

Mindfulness-based art therapy (MBAT) is a therapeutic intervention that combines the benefits of mindfulness training with art therapy. Mindfulness-based interventions improve attention, self-awareness, and emotion regulation in people with mental illness. However, the combination of mindfulness and art therapy found in MBAT has only recently begun to be studied. Research suggests that MBAT may improve symptoms of depression and anxiety in cancer patients. Our short communication provides a foundational discussion in support of future studies to evaluate the safety and efficacy of MBAT for people with mental illness.
