Abstract

Summary: Examines the data on drug abuse in the late Sixties and early Seventies and concludes that there was probably no significant increase in the use of heroin. The crisis of drug abuse that many Americans perceived at the time was in fact a crisis of politics and morality. These findings lead the authors to fascinating and important revisions of theories of labelling and deviance.
