Several epidemiologic studies and GWASs have implicated genetic factors in the pathogenesis of vitiligo. The report by Kim et al. (2020) describes a prospective cohort study from Korea that has the greatest statistical power to date in addressing the epidemiology of vitiligo inheritance. The authors reported the incidence risk ratios in individuals whose first-degree relatives or spouses are affected, providing clear evidence that both genetic and nongenetic factors influence the pathogenesis of vitiligo.Source
