Academic institutions receive direct and indirect financial benefits based on the communities they serve, including research funding, which is essential for advancing medicine. To strive for social equity and to minimize disparities in outcomes between populations, diversity in research participation that is representative of the global population is necessary. Diversity in members of the clinical research team is also important because it fosters scientific innovation, increases the likelihood of participation in under-resourced populations, and enhances public trust.Source
