Who can contribute to eScholarship@UMassChan
eScholarship@UMassChan is a digital repository for UMass Chan Medical School's research and scholarship. We welcome submissions from UMass Chan faculty, postdocs and staff. UMassChan students may submit theses, dissertations, published journal articles, and works that have been approved for inclusion by a faculty member. Only users with a umassmed.edu email address are allowed to submit materials.

What materials can be contributed
eScholarship@UMassChan welcomes digital materials in a wide range of formats, including text, images, video, and audio files. Materials must meet submission and copyright guidelines. Formats include, but are not limited to, the following: journal articles -- including preprints (author-created first version of a manuscript before peer review) and postprints (accepted peer-reviewed manuscripts); audio files; book chapters; conference materials; datasets; dissertations; posters; presentations; reports; student projects; and videos.
Copyright
Submitting a work to eScholarship@UMassChan does not transfer copyright; it only grants the Library a non-exclusive license to distribute and archive the work.
All submissions are reviewed for copyright compliance. Contributors must either hold copyright to the work or have the permission of the copyright holder to publish it in the repository. Contributors are solely responsible for obtaining the the rights to use any third-party copyrighted materials, allowing electronic distribution, prior to submission.
Many journal publishers allow authors to post a version of their published articles in an institutional repository such as eScholarship@UMassChan. Authors can consult the SHERPA/RoMEO website, which provides a summary of permissions that are normally given to authors as part of each publisher’s copyright transfer agreement or license. The Library will also assist authors in determining if materials are eligible to be deposited; contact escholarship@umassmed.edu for assistance.

How to submit to eScholarship@UMassChan
Before you begin the online submission process
Before you begin the online submission process, please be sure you have the following items ready:
- If you are a student, make sure you have reviewed the submission guidelines and completed the prerequisites for the collection you plan to submit to in the UMass Chan Student Research and Publications community
- The submission’s title
- PubMed ID (PMID) if the work is available in PubMed
- Abstract
- Keywords
- Authorization to post this work to an open access repository.
- An appropriate electronic version of the work or link to your file. PDF format is preferred, although most file formats are accepted. Please make your submission is as accessible to users with disabilities as possible. This ensures ease of use and the broadest possible readership for your work. See our accessibility guidelines for authors.
- Any supplemental files to be displayed on the web page with your work such as handouts, datasets, video files, etc.
- Consider whether you would like to apply a Creative Commons License to this work. See About the Licenses for definitions and explanations of the various license types.

Submission process
Faculty, postdocs and staff: UMass Chan faculty, postdocs and staff may submit research online through a direct submission process or contact escholarship@umassmed.edu to request the assistance of a librarian with the submission process. All submissions are reviewed for copyright compliance.
- Log in to eScholarship@MassChan
- Click the "Submissions" link in the left sidebar under "My Account"
- Click on "start a new submission"
- Select one of these two collections:
- To submit research publications: Select UMass Chan Faculty and Staff Research and Publications > UMass Chan Faculty and Researcher Publications
- To submit research data and datasets: Select UMass Chan Research Data > UMass Chan Research Data and Datasets (see our Data Deposit Policy)
- Fill in the submission form to describe the item - if your publication appears in PubMed, use the Import step to enter the PubMed ID and information from PubMed will be used to populate the submission form
- Upload your file(s), providing a short description for each
- Choose a Creative Commons License, if desired
- Review your submission
- Read and agree to the eScholarship@UMassChan Non-Exclusive Deposit License
Students: UMass Chan students may submit research online through a direct submission process by following the links and instructions for specific collections in the UMass Chan Student Research and Publications community. Unpublished student research must be approved for inclusion by a UMass Chan faculty member related to the project. If you are unsure whether a publication is suitable for eScholarship@UMassChan, consult escholarship@umassmed.edu before beginning the online submission process.

- Fill in the submission form to describe the item
- Upload your file(s), providing a short description for each
- Choose a Creative Commons License, if desired
- Review your submission
- Read and agree to the eScholarship@UMassChan Non-Exclusive Deposit License
What happens next
After reviewing the submission, the library will contact you if there are any questions. Most submissions are posted within 7 business days. You will receive an email with a persistent link to your submission when it is posted.
