eScholarship Website Upgrade 2024 FAQ
What is happening?
Launched in 2006, the eScholarship@UMassChan repository (formerly eScholarship@UMMS) has been an important digital platform at UMass Chan Medical School, hosting faculty research, student research, and unique original publications and scholarship.
In Fall 2024, the eScholarship@UMassChan website will be upgraded to a newer version of the repository software.
Why is the upgrade necessary?
This upgrade will move the repository to a more modern user interface and infrastructure for the future and is mandatory for continued developer support.
What is the timeframe for the upgrade?
The upgrade requires a minimum 6-week content freeze while repository data is migrated, configured and tested. New submissions or changes to existing items will not be allowed during this period. The current website will be available for searching and downloading during this period, until the rollout of the upgraded website.
The last day for submissions before the content freeze is Friday, October 18, 2024. We anticipate that we will go live with the upgraded repository website during the first week of December 2024.
Departmental, school, and other stakeholders will be provided with any necessary instructions and information.
Will the old links still work?
Yes, links from the repository before the upgrade will still work. The upgraded website pages will have new URLs, but the DOIs (digital object identifiers) and handles will redirect appropriately.
Departmental, school and other stakeholders (those known to library staff) will be notified in advance so that school website links can be updated as necessary.
Will my previous account still work?
Yes. All user accounts will get migrated as part of the upgrade. UMass Chan users will continue to use Single Sign On to authenticate and sign in with their umassmed.edu email address and password. As before, users without a umassmed.edu email address will not be able to submit materials to eScholarship.
How will this upgrade affect the download statistics of my works?
Cumulative download and view counts for each item will be migrated as part of the upgrade. The repository software will continue to collect and display usage statistics.
Where can I get help if I have questions?
Keep an eye on this page for more communications about the upgrade. We will email departmental and other stakeholders throughout the upgrade period to help ensure a successful transition. If you have questions, email the Library at escholarship@umassmed.edu or use our Ask a Librarian form.
